Here’s Your First Look At Kristen Wiig As Barbara Minerva In Wonder Woman 1984

Director Patty Jenkins treats us to our first look at Wonder Woman 1984's villain, as played by Kristen Wiig, with her latest Tweet. Check it out!

With all the hoopla surrounding the reveal of Wonder Woman 1984‘s official title a couple weeks back – not to mention the first image showing Gal Gadot in full costume being released days later – it’s important that we not experience sensory overload and remember what else the picture has to offer.

That said, one of the biggest talking points surrounding any superhero flick is that of whom the main villain will be. In this case, it’s the Cheetah, who’ll be played by Kristen Wiig. Though not perhaps the first person who’d spring to mind for this particular gig, we can’t rule out the famed comedian from churning out a memorable dramatic performance like, say, the late Robin Williams did in films such as One Hour Photo or Insomnia.

So, while rumors begin circulating that we’ll see Wiig as the full-on Cheetah in some sort of presentation to be held at San Diego Comic-Con next month, director Patty Jenkins is more than willing to show us what she looks like as the human side of the equation, that being Barbara Minerva.

Thanks to a picture shared on the filmmaker’s Twitter page (above), we’re able to glimpse the Amazon Warrior’s next foe, albeit from a distance. Still, we can see that the costuming department remains on point with everything they do to signify the time period in which the pictures takes place.

Of course, Barbara Minerva was one of several to take up the Cheetah mantle throughout DC Comics’ rich history, so it’s nice receiving confirmation regarding which version we’re getting. And as a fan of the source material, I do think going this route makes more sense because Barbara is probably the one with which most modern readers are familiar – especially if they sank their teeth into Greg Rucka’s recent run on the books.

Wonder Woman 1984 arrives in theaters on November 1st, 2019.
