From Bridesmaids to Despicable Me 2, Anchorman 2 to The Martian, Kristen Wiig’s Hollywood career is a swathe of comedy turns punctuated with the odd foray into drama. For the actress’ new, deeply personal ‘film’ Crying in a Sweater, Wiig is turning over a whole new leaf.

Channeling a similarly raw performance to the one Wiig gave for indie drama Diary of a Teenage Girl, the actress unveiled the clip during her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, which you can check out above.

As you’ve likely already gathered, Wiig is really doing the press rounds to promote her involvement in Sebastián Silv’s Chilean-American drama film Nasty Baby. Putting the spoof trailers to one side, Wiig’s turn in Silv’s timely drama is genuinely attracting awards buzz, and Nasty Baby has emerged as a frontrunner for getting the nod in foreign-language film category come Oscar time.

“The fact there was so much controversy because we were women was surprising to me,” Wiig told the Los Angeles Times. “Some people said some really not nice things about the fact that there were women. It didn’t make me mad, it just really bummed me out. We’re really honoring those movies.”

Nasty Baby had its premiere during Sundance earlier in the year, before garnering praise after its bow at Berlin some time later. It opened in limited release on October 23, with an on demand launch primed for October 30. Crying in a Sweater, meanwhile, isn’t coming to theaters – or entering any Oscar races – anytime soon.
