Despite being too similar to Chronicle for some, the reaction to Lionsgate’s unveiling of the first Power Rangers trailer has been one of cautious optimism.

Not only did it leave fans with plenty to chew on, but it refrained from showcasing our new heroes suited and booted too early – beyond a brief shot of Dacre Montgomery’s Jason Lee Scott gearing up, that is – thus maintaining a sense of intrigue as the film’s 2017 release date approaches. Continuing to uphold that mystery for the time being is a new image for Dean Israelite’s overhaul, which places the spotlight on a very worried Red Ranger.

Is Montgomery’s character simply waking up from a particularly troubling nightmare? Or is this pulled from early on in the story when he’s beginning to wrangle with his newfound abilities? We’re inclined to believe it’s the latter.

Elsewhere on the Power Rangers new cycle, YVRShoots has relayed a report confirming that Lionsgate’s 2017 tentpole is currently undergoing reshoots, with set photos suggesting that one of those new scenes in question takes place in a graveyard. Dark and difficult times lie ahead for our new Rangers, it seems.

Rubbing shoulders with Montgomery are Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, Becky Gomez as the Yellow Ranger and RJ Cyler as the Blue Ranger. Bryan Cranston (Zordon), Elizabeth Banks (Rita Repulsa) and Bill Hader (Alpha 5) complete the stacked ensemble, one that appears to strike a nice balance between up-and-coming talent and proven stars.

Power Rangers will hope to ignite a newfound franchise at Lionsgate when Dean Israelite’s bold reboot morphs into theaters in time for March 24, 2017.
