Brought to life by Game of Thrones actress Gwendoline Christie, the menacing Stormtropper quickly became a fan-favorite following her unveiling in The Force Awakens, when the Star Wars community affectionately christened her character as the “Chrome Trooper.” A badass title for a badass character, if we do say so ourselves, even if Christie’s First Order Commander didn’t get an awful lot of screentime in J.J. Abrams’ franchise revival.

At the very least, fans can take solace in the fact that Captain Phasma will be back, back, back for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and she’s brought a “killer” new weapon along for the ride. Citing a source close to Disney – likely one that attended yesterday’s shareholders’ meeting – Making Star Wars claims Phasma will be equipped with a new weapon (spoilers: it’s a staff) come December. And that’s it, really.

The report doesn’t reveal much more beyond the weapon itself, which could either be a primitive staff in the vein of Rey’s original weapon – one she’s no doubt replaced with a Lightsaber – or an advanced armament capable of battling Jedi in the vein of, say, TR-8R from The Force Awakens. Either way, we’ll be bringing you all the latest on The Last Jedi as more information comes to light, so be sure to stay tuned.

Directed by Rian Johnson, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is expected to take flight on December 15th. Other projects gestating in that iconic galaxy far, far away include an untitled Han Solo origin story – helmed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, it’s on course to hit theaters on May 25th, 2018 – and Star Wars: Episode IX, the Colin Trevorrow-directed sequel that will herald the latest (and final?) chapter in the Skywalker saga come 2019.
