Game of Thrones star Lena Headey is now set for the lead role in Jacqueline Ess, an upcoming horror movie based on Clive Barker’s Jacqueline Ess: Her Will and Testament. For those unfamiliar with the story, it follows the titular housewife, who possesses mental powers that can “can change the form of peoples’ bodies, with fatal effect.”
Sounds like a good bit of body horror to me, and definitely something that could make for a disturbing and intense film, especially when you throw in the whole sexual angle, which involves Jacqueline becoming a prostitute and using her abilities to give men “the ultimate sexual experience.”
Making her directorial debut on Jacqueline Ess will be Jovanka Vukovic, who also co-wrote the script with Christian Francis. Despite the fresh blood behind the camera, Barker’s story and Headey’s screen presence should definitely be enough to make horror fans sit up and take notice of this one. The author will be involved in the project as well, in an executive producer capacity, so you can be sure that his story will come to life in an appropriate fashion and that the film will honor its source material.
Personally, I’m not familiar with Jacqueline Ess: Her Will and Testament, but Barker is enough of an authority/legend in the horror world that my curiosity has officially been piqued, especially since this particular story sounds so gruesome and out there. Plus, Headey is a bold and beautiful leading actress who deserves to be given more starring roles on the big screen. She’s absolutely brilliant in Game of Thrones and every time that she appears on film she’s equally as captivating. Though it’s still early days, I’m definitely looking forward to hearing more on this intriguing little horror project.
