In stepping away from the other Lionsgate release grabbing all the headlines lately, the studio has dedicated some attention to another of its young adult franchises, Insurgent.

The second chapter in Veronica Roth’s Divergent book series is currently filming in Atlanta, with a release date set for March of next year. And today, Lionsgate confirmed plans to release the film in 3D and debuted two motion posters of Caleb Prior, the Erudite, and Tori Wu. We understand the company plan to release a new 3D-themed poster every hour, so we’ll update this article as each one is unveiled.

In tandem with the studio’s announcement, producers Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher also touched upon the decision to release the film in 3D.

“The second film in the Divergent franchise takes the story and action to another level and, by partnering with RealD, we were able to blend gripping performances and mind-blowing spectacle to create a unique event on screen. We cannot wait to share this experience with audiences around the world.”

Insurgent will herald the return of lead stars Shailene Woodley and Theo James, along with the likes of Jai Courtney, Kate Winslet, Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller and Zoe Kravitz. Joining those returning actors and actresses are Academy award winner Octavia Spencer, along with Suki Waterhouse, Naomi Watts, Daniel Dae Kim, and Jonny Weston.

Getting back to that 3D confirmation, though, it’s difficult to imagine a film like Insurgent benefiting from having the added effect. It’s easy to be cynical and claim that Lionsgate is eyeing the extra ticket sales; after all, the first entry into the franchise, Divergent, didn’t perform overly well at the box office when it released earlier this year (in comparison to its politically charged next-of-kin, The Hunger Games, at least.)

Whatever your take on the matter, Insurgent will race into theaters on March 20th, 2015.
