The Mandarin Has A Message For America In New Iron Man 3 Clip

Marvel Studios aren’t shy of overexposure, it seems, after the company lifted the curtain on the 5th TV spot for their so-close-you-can-almost-taste-it Iron Man 3. The third film in the superhero franchise will be helmed by Shane Black and is poised to focus on a Tony Stark who has been pushed against the wall by the relentlessly savage villain known as The Mandarin.

It’s predictable that sequels advertise themselves as bigger and darker beasts than their cinematic predecessors, but in the above clip Iron Man 3 goes to some lengths to validate that typical hyperbole. Black’s first foray into the Marvel universe is in tandem with the studio’s second phase of films in the wake of The Avengers, and, with the director set to interpret the Extremis storyline into the upcoming threequel, the film is shaping up to be one of this year’s must-sees.

For the film, The Mandarin acts as the crux of the narrative. Billed as an intelligent international terrorist who doesn’t know when to quit, Sir. Ben Kingsley’s adversary will push our brash hero to the limits and will surely bring a particularly dark gravitas to the story. Plus, in striking Tony Stark where it hurts, Robert Downey Jr.’s genius-billionaire-playboy-philanthropist will experience his fair share of character-defining moments.

Soaring onto all the various cinematic mediums, Iron Man 3 will be available to watch in 2D, 3D and even IMAX on May 3rd in U.S.A. (April 26th in the UK). Reprising their roles for the third time will be Robert Downey Junior, Gwyneth Paltrow and director-come-actor Jon Faverau. The film will also star Don Chedale, Sir. Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce and Rebecca Hall.
