Kevin Feige Says Johnny Depp Will Not Star In Doctor Strange

We all know by now that there's going to be a Doctor Strange movie sometime in the not too distant future. Kevin Feige, the current brains behind Marvel's movie empire, has again confirmed that the film is a priority for the studio and will appear in theaters sometime in 2016 as part of their Phase 3 plans. That's awesome news for everybody that's been clamoring for the Sorcerer Supreme to show up on the big screen. You don't get a name like "Sorcerer Supreme" without being a big deal, y'know?

We all know by now that there’s going to be a Doctor Strange movie sometime in the not too distant future. Kevin Feige, the current brains behind Marvel’s movie empire, has again confirmed that the film is a priority for the studio and will appear in theaters sometime in 2016 as part of their Phase 3 plans. That’s awesome news for everybody that’s been clamoring for the Sorcerer Supreme to show up on the big screen. You don’t get a name like “Sorcerer Supreme” without being a big deal, y’know?

Like all big deals and big movies though, there are plenty of rumors swirling around the production. Who is going to play the main character? Who is going to direct? Will the main character still wear that weird cloak? All of these are questions that Feige has had to deal with and the film is still at least 2 years away. It’s speculation like this that makes the anticipation so much fun though.

One of the more persistent rumors surrounding Doctor Strange is that Johnny Depp was being eyed for the lead role. In a recent interview with IGN though, Feige, who has fooled us before by being purposely cagey about casting rumors, denied that Depp would be putting on the weird cloak:

“No, no. When you have a project that’s been around as long as Doctor Strange, there is sometimes, ‘Oh, I’ve met with Stan about this! Or I did that!’ So Strange is one of those projects that predates me by a long shot. Obviously, the character does, but even in its cinematic brewing. So there’s a lot of things that have happened before me, and I’ve been here 14 years. So that’s a long time ago. I don’t know if that happened then.”

There is still a lot that can happen over the coming months and years as Marvel chugs into Phase 3, but with Captain America: Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy set to be released on April 4th and August 1st, respectively, it looks as if the studio won’t be slowing down any time soon. It’s an incredibly exciting time to be a fan of comic books, movies and movies about comic books, and we cannot wait to see who the studio chooses to play the Sorcerer Supreme in their film.

Who do you think should be cast as Doctor Strange Let us know in the comments section below! I’ll get it started: Bill Hader.
