Matt Damon Reveals Which Superhero He’d Play And What Director He Wants At The Helm

Ben Affleck shocked the world when he signed up to play the Caped Crusader in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but will his best friend and frequent collaborator Matt Damon one day join him in the superhero movie genre? Ben Affleck shocked the world when he signed up to play the Caped Crusader in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but will his best friend and frequent collaborator Matt Damon one day join him in the superhero movie genre? In an interview to promote The Martian recently, the actor admitted that he might be interested, but only if the right role were to come along (he also touches on Affleck’s decision to take on the role of Batman).

“I think he approached it the right way, which is, ‘Can I make a great superhero movie?’ rather than, ‘Do I want to play a superhero?’ I’d consider it if the right thing came along.”

It could be argued that Damon already plays a superhero of sorts with Jason Bourne, but it turns out that there’s one character he has huge regrets about not getting the chance to play. That’s Daredevil, a role Affleck beat him to back in 2003, and one it turns out that both actors were major fans of during their childhoods.

“For us it was always ‘Daredevil’ — that’s the comic we read when we were kids. But when that one came along (in 2003) I chickened out, because I couldn’t tell. I hadn’t seen the director (Mark Steven Johnson’s) work and I didn’t know. So I just said, ‘No.’ Ben was like, ‘I gotta do it.’ And the movie ended up doing very well, even though I don’t think Ben was ultimately very proud of it.”

Of course, with Daredevil now a hit show on Netflix, the chances of Damon getting the opportunity to suit up as the Man Without Fear are somewhere between slim and none. It’s a good job then that Damon’s fantasy movie would need to have a director who probably won’t ever say yes to it.

“If Chris Nolan came up to me and said, ‘I want to do Daredevil,’ I would be in. Just putting that out there.”
