Captain Marvel will introduce the shapeshifting alien Skrulls into the MCU for the first time. Though nothing’s been confirmed or even hinted at in any official capacity as yet, it’s widely believed by fans that their appearance in the movie will set up an adaptation of the Secret Invasion storyline from the comics, which saw many prominent Marvel heroes revealed to be Skrulls in disguise.

There’s obviously huge potential in making a film – perhaps Avengers 5 – based on this comic book event, as it would blow audiences’ minds if a character they’d been watching for years was revealed to be an alien all along. But which heroes could realistically be Skrulls? Heavy hitters like Iron Man, Cap, Thor, etc. are obviously not going to be taken down this route, but a few of the important supporting players of the MCU are definite contenders.

On that note, ComicBook.com has laid out some convincing arguments for a few folks in particular, including Hakweye, Falcon and more.

Hawkeye – We know Clint Barton will return in Avengers 4 under the new alter ego of Ronin, complete with a mohawk! But did the archery-themed hero just fancy a change of pace, or is he actually a secret Skrull?

Maria Hill – The trusty S.H.I.E.L.D. operative is currently ash, thanks to Thanos’ snap. If she comes back, though – which she looks to be in Spider-Man: Far From Home – perhaps it’ll be as a Skrull impersonator instead.

Thaddeus Ross – Seeing as the whole point of the Skrull’s secret invasion is to infiltrate systems of power, it would make sense for the species to replace a key government figure like Secretary of State, Thaddeus Ross.

Falcon – Much like Maria Hill, if or when Sam Wilson returns after being vaporized by Thanos, it could be that it’s as a Skrull replacement who’s been sent to keep an eye on and influence Falcon’s close pal Captain America.

War Machine – Rhodey being revealed as a Skrull would arguably be one of the smartest moves Marvel could make, as it would be hugely shocking but also not invalidate previous stories, as he’s never been a lead character.

Everett Ross – The Secret Invasion event saw Wakanda as a key location that held out against the Skrulls. It might make sense for Everett Ross then, someone with a familiarity with the country, to be replaced in the MCU.

Sharon Carter – Peggy Carter’s niece, otherwise known as Agent 13, is another character with a lot of influence – as a super-spy and a love interest of Steve Rogers – so she’d certainly be a useful individual for the Skrulls to impersonate.

Valkyrie – The Asgardian warrior appears to have survived The Snap, but she’s still been away for a while, perhaps providing the opportunity for her to have been swapped out for a Skrull imposter? After all, she could be their way into Thor.

Of course, this is all just speculation for now, but any of these individuals could end up being Skrulls in the MCU and honestly, we wouldn’t be surprised. What do you think, though? Do any of these heroes/supporting characters strike you as potential candidates? As always, let us know in the comments section.
