Melissa McCarthy Is The Boss In New Red Band Trailer For Ben Falcone’s Comedy

Melissa McCarthy has played unhinged police detectives and vulgar Bridesmaids, budding secret agents and, soon, a badass Ghostbuster. But before donning the proton pack in Paul Feig's reboot, the fan-favorite actress will step into the shoes of a fast-talking business mogul for The Boss, and today brings forth the decidedly not-safe-for-work first trailer.

For the comedy romp, McCarthy plays Michelle Darnell, the wealthiest woman in all of America. She’s a pompous and egotistical loud-mouth – along with some other descriptions from Kathy Bates’ name-calling rant that we’ll refrain from including – though that empire soon comes crashing down when she’s found guilty of insider trading.

Feeling her fame and fortune slip between her fingers, McCarthy’s Darnell devises a plan to reinstate her crumbling empire with the help of Kristen Bell’s friend, and it’s a business scheme that involves, er, selling brownies with the help of Bell’s daughter and her fellow Dandelion troops.

Also starring Games of Thrones‘ Peter Dinklage, Bates and Cecily Strong, The Boss has been slated for a release on April 8, 2016. Tammy director Ben Falcone will take point for this one, and the script – and indeed character – are a product of McCarthy and the filmmaker.

The Boss stars the Academy Award-nominated McCarthy (Bridesmaids, The Heat) as a titan of industry who is sent to prison after she’s caught for insider trading. When she emerges ready to rebrand herself as America’s latest sweetheart, not everyone she screwed over is so quick to forgive and forget. McCarthy is joined by a cast that includes Kristen Bell (“Veronica Mars,” Frozen), Peter Dinklage (“Game of Thrones,” Pixels), Kathy Bates (Tammy, “American Horror Story”) and Cecily Strong (“SNL”).
