Things are going well for Boom! Comics at the moment. Having already had its title Lumberjanes set up for adaptation by screenwriter Will Widger at Fox, that studio has now snapped up the rights to Boom! Comic book Imagine Agents, also lining up Academy Award nominee Michael Keaton to produce and star.

Launched in October 2013, Imagine Agents is the creation of comic book writer Brian Joines and artist Bachan. It tells the story of a secret organization whose agents are tasked with the management and supervision of the imaginary friends created by small children. At the time of its launch, Imagine Agents author Joines explained the premise to Comic Book Resources.

Imagine Agents is set in a world where the imaginary friends of children – referred to as ‘figments’ by the characters in the book – are real creatures, visible only to the child that has ‘created’ them – unless you have the specialised equipment worn by the agents. When the child outgrows the friend or (especially) if the figment gets out of line, I.M.A.G.I.N.E will step in and handle the situation as needed.

“Our story focuses on two agents: Dave Slatern, a 20 year veteran of I.M.A.G.I.N.E who has become jaded over the years and lost his appreciation for all the wonder in this world; and Terry Snowgoose, a younger, slacker-esque agent recruited from the I.M.A.G.I.N.E archiving department who is bungling his way through his first week in the field. Their story begins on a routine day that evolves into something much bigger than they’d imagined.”

Joining Keaton in a production capacity on Imagine Agents are producers Michael Sugar (Anonymous Content) and Ross Richie (Boom!), while Stephen Christy of Boom!, and Eli Selden and Doug Wald of Anonymous Content are executive producing. At the current time, no writers have been attached, but with Michael Keaton on board the project already, any writer should be able to give his character just the right amount of uniqueness.
