THR is reporting tonight that Michelle MacLaren has parted ways with Warner Bros. and will no longer direct their standalone Wonder Woman film. The studio released the following statement regarding the news:

Given creative differences, Warner Bros. and Michelle MacLaren have decided not to move forward with plans to develop and direct Wonder Woman together.

Thanks to her incredible work behind the camera of acclaimed TV shows like Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad, MacLaren had been a favorite to direct the film for quite some time. It’s impossible to know what really went down here and why she decided to depart, but it’s definitely disheartening news for fans of the character who have been waiting for what seems like ages to see her get the proper cinematic treatment.

Gal Gadot is still expected to star and apparently, the studio hopes to keep the film’s 2017 release date in tact, which means that a new director will likely be brought on board shortly. That’s all we really know for certain at this time but as always, we’ll keep you posted once more news arises.

For now, let us know who you think would be a suitable replacement for MacLaren on Wonder Woman.
