In the days leading up to the debut of the first trailer, there was a lot of mixed emotion swirling around Fox’s rebooted Fantastic Four. The company’s new take on Marvel’s First Family had garnered its fair share of detractors due to the fact that we didn’t know an awful lot the production, or in which direction Josh Trank would take the IP.
But, low and behold, our first look at Trank’s vision of Fantastic Four served up a surprising slice of superhero action rooted in science fiction, and according to MTV, we weren’t the only ones to harbour a sense of amazement when the screen went black. Over the weekend, the outlet spoke to Whiplash star Miles Teller about his own reaction to the footage.
“When you’re shooting a movie, especially this movie with Josh Trank he has a very specific tone whether it is ‘Chronicle’ or what he did with this, but as an actor you don’t really know what kind of movie it is until you see them cut it together.
“That is the first we saw any footage. I was excited and I know that for the most part the concensus is good.”
Teller is on board to play Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic in the upcoming reboot, while House of Cards star Kate Mara will fill the role of Sue Storm/The Inivisible Woman. The remainder of the titular group will be rounded out by Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch along with Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm/The Thing.
Fox has slated its new take on Fantastic Four to arrive on August 6, 2015. Only then will we know for sure whether this sense of excitement has been in good taste.
THE FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.
