Leading the charge as Jane Hammond is Portman, a wanted fugitive who finds herself smack bang between the crosshairs of the Bishop Boys, a band of gleefully violent outlaws that hunt the dusty prairies in search of our badass lead. In fear of their wraith and, in particular, that of their leader (Ewan McGregor), Jane is left with little option but to approach her former fiancé Dan Frost, as they both batten down the hatches in order to weather the storm of bullets, blood and violence.

Jane Got a Gun may go down for its storied production, with numerous casting switcheroos along with the high-profile and abrupt departure of Lynne Ramsay from the director’s chair. Thanks to The Weinstein Company swooping in though, O’Connor’s genre piece has emerged from the other side of a turbulent production, though the jury’s still out on whether the end product is more than the sum of its parts.

Gavin O’Connor’s Western will also star Ewan McGregor, Noah Emmerich, Joel Edgerton, Boyd Holbrook and Rodrigo Santoro when it trots into theaters in early 2016. To catch a glimpse of Portman in action as Jane, check out the poster below for Jane Got a Gun.

Jane Got a Gun centers on Jane Hammond (Natalie Portman), who has built a new life with her husband Bill “Ham” Hammond (Noah Emmerich) after being tormented by the ultra-violent Bishop Boys outlaw gang. She finds herself in the gang’s cross-hairs once again when Ham stumbles home riddled with bullets after dueling with the Boys and their relentless mastermind Colin (Ewan McGregor).

With the vengeful crew hot on Ham’s trail, Jane has nowhere to turn but to her former fiancé Dan Frost (Joel Edgerton) for help in defending her family against certain destruction. Haunted by old memories, Jane’s past meets the present in a heart-stopping battle for survival.
