Hot on the heels of that creepy poster released earlier today, we now have the brand new trailer for Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant to share with you. It wasn’t supposed to drop until Thursday, but it seems to have emerged online ahead of schedule – as these things tend to do – and we’ve embedded it above for your viewing pleasure.

While the first preview that landed back in December certainly did a good job of setting the scene for what’s to come, this trailer amps up the horror to 11, painting a truly terrifying picture of what awaits the crew of the titular ship. Things start off innocently enough, with a scene of the “last supper” which we saw not too long ago in the recently released prologue. However, it’s not long before the footage takes a dark and ominous turn.

Cue some violence, a bit of bloodshed, lots of screaming and an attack by a giant, freakin’ xenomorph right at the end. All in all, it’s a very satisfying tease for the upcoming blockbuster, showing us that Scott is really going back to his roots here, presenting us with a wholly unsettling and horrific journey, one that promises to send shivers down your spine – even if it does seem to lack that claustrophobic feel from the original.

Actress Katherine Waterston leads the cast in Covenant as the Ripley-esque Daniels, with Danny McBride, Billy Crudup, Demian Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Jussie Smollett, Amy Seimetz and Michael Fassbender set to co-star. James Franco will also show up in the role of Branson, both the captain of Covenant and husband to Waterston’s Daniels, though from what we’ve heard, the actor holds only a minor part.

Alien: Covenant is considered the next step in Ridley Scott’s journey to dovetail his Prometheus prequel saga with the movie that started it all back in ’79. It’ll be with us on May 19th.
