It’s one of the biggest blockbusters of the summer season – and we’re not just referring to those delightful proton packs.

For in Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon’s brilliant minds don the famous costumes to ward off supernatural nasties from the streets of New York City, and a new still emerging today from the shadows (read: Entertainment Weekly) showcases the director’s fantastic four suited, booted and in the process of tackling a winged demon.

Indeed, while McCarthy, Wiig and Jones each bring their own intellectual abilities to the equation, McKinnon rounds out the ghost-busting quarter as Jillian Holtzmann, the MacGyver among Feig’s heroes. Speaking to EW, the actress offered new insight into her character and how she’ll play off the remaining members of the group.

She’s in charge of inventing all the cool stuff. The proton wand is undergoing a constant evolution. That’s her role, to perfect these machines. She’s obsessed with coming out with different doodads and improving them. I think my colleagues and I would agree that the proton wand was near and dear to all of our hearts. They were very close to us the whole time, on our backs.

Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon confront the supernatural menace head on when Paul Feig’s overhauled Ghostbusters movie looms in theaters in time for July 15. Then, it’ll be sandwiched in between Star Trek Beyond and Universal’s Jason Bourne revival, but can Feig’s fantastic four stand tall against the competition?

Ghostbusters makes its long-awaited return, rebooted with a cast of hilarious new characters. Thirty years after the beloved original franchise took the world by storm, director Paul Feig brings his fresh take to the supernatural comedy, joined by some of the funniest actors working today – Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth. This summer, they’re here to save the world!
