Look, I know whether or not Ben Affleck will indeed be donning the cape and cowl in The Batman is the most pressing matter of all regarding the Matt Reeves-directed “noir-driven” feature, but judging from the latest round of speculation, the fandom might be getting ahead of itself.
For those of you who don’t know, late last week, Reeves provided a much-needed update on the status of the pic. And while the filmmaker did his best to address some of the more climacteric questions facing his standalone feature, including Ben Affleck’s involvement, unfortunately, the issue was left open-ended.
Naturally, as a result of the nebulous nature pertaining to the actor and his participation in The Batman, the DCEU – or should I say, Worlds of DC – fanbase, is reaching for any indication that Big Ben will be reprising the role of Caped Crusader, for better or worse. And as you’ll see below, the latter is certainly beginning to rear its ugly head.
With The Batman aiming for an early 2019 start date, some new photos of Ben Affleck have surfaced online in which the two-time Academy Award winner does appear to be in decent shape. Granted, his figure is nowhere near where it was for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, but a quick scan of the comments section on Reddit (which is where these pics were posted) will reveal that a fair share of users believe Big Ben’s gearing up for another bout as the masked vigilante.
Obviously, this is confirmation of literally nothing, but the snapshots have, at the very least, sparked debate amongst us fanboys. After all, Reeves did reveal he’s still speaking to Affleck about The Batman and, who knows, anything can happen, right? Regardless, it’s nice to see Ben’s rounding into form, save for the smoking.
