New Shazam! Set Pic Reveals Another Batman Easter Egg

Not for the first time, the Caped Crusader has been linked with a possible cameo role in Shazam! The DCEU standalone movie, one that's said to be like a super-powered rendition of Big, is currently lensing across parts of Toronto, Canada under the working title 'Franklin.' Should everything go according to plan, David Sandberg's spinoff will remain in front of the cameras until May, at which point Warner Bros. will shift gears and prepare for a lengthy post-production ahead of the film's arrival in April.

The DCEU standalone pic, one that’s said to be like a super-powered rendition of Big, is currently lensing across parts of Toronto, Ontario under the working title ‘Franklin.’ Should everything go according to plan, David F. Sandberg’s spinoff will remain in front of the cameras until May, at which point Warner Bros. will shift gears and prepare for a lengthy post-production ahead of the film’s arrival in April.

But now that shooting has officially commenced, the set photos (and videos!) are rolling in at a steady rate and the latest pic hints at yet another Batman easter egg. Though the Dark Knight himself has yet to appear on set, Gotham City and its surroundings continue to be hinted at, with the photo down in the gallery below showing us a news truck that hails from the Bat’s hometown, thus strengthening those rumors of Ben Affleck’s Caped Crusader being involved in some way.

We don’t imagine that we’ll actually pay a visit to Gotham City during Shazam!, but this new set pic coupled with one from the other week that teased Ace Chemicals makes it clear that there will indeed be some connection between the titular hero and Batman – or the city he inhabits. After all, Sandberg recently shared a clip from an animated movie that saw the Dark Knight encountering the hero formally known as Captain Marvel, further fueling the speculation.

Then again, with all those rumors of Affleck possibly on his way out of the DCEU, maybe these easter eggs are simply just that and not a sign of things to come. Or perhaps they’re just there in the film to let audiences know that it takes place in the same universe as the rest of the franchise.

Either way, we should find out soon enough, as production on Shazam! is scheduled to continue until May before the movie conjures its way onto cinemas on April 5th, 2019.
