Come summer, there are plenty of blockbusters that will be vying for your hard-earned money and time, and 2015 is certainly shaping up to be one of the busiest seasons in recent memory. But situated among the bombastic action and high-profile reboots is Seth MacFarlane’s comedy sequel Ted 2, which recently debuted a new teaser poster ahead of the very first trailer on Thursday.
As one would expect, the image is about as on the nose as they come, hinting at the second coming of everyone’s favourite foul-talking stuffed animal. For the follow-up, MacFarlane’s brash bear will reunite with Mark Wahlberg’s John Bennett (thunder buddies for life, remember) for another bout of belly-tickling mayhem. Much like his multi-tasking on Family Guy and American Dad, MacFarlane will write and produce the raunchy sequel, which has a particular brand of expectation resting on its fuzzy shoulders.
Lest we forget, the original took a staggering $550 million at the worldwide box office back in 2012, cementing its reputation as one of the most successful R-rated comedy in film history. And given how comedy sequels have proven to be a tricky butterfly to pin — see The Hangover 2 et al. — it’ll be interesting to see whether Ted 2 can reach those dizzying heights once again or, on the other hand, whether the novelty of a talking bear with issues has worn out in the time that has passed.
Ted 2 will bring together Wahlberg, MacFarlane, Amanda Seyfried (who replaces Mila Kunis as the love interest), Morgan Freeman, Liam Nesson, Dennis Haysbert, Jessica Barth when it arrives in theaters on June 26, 2015.
