Nicolas Winding Refn’s Only God Forgives arrives in theatres and on VOD today. Acting as a follow up to his critically acclaimed 2011 film Drive, expectations are high for Refn’s second collaboration with Ryan Gosling. Unfortunately though, so far, reviews seem to be pretty mixed.

Having seen the film, I can say that it’s visually striking and definitely has some interesting ideas behind it but for me personaly, it’s a bit too experimental and artsy. There isn’t a whole lot of dialogue and the story is too weak to invest in. Still, from a pure filmmaking perspective, it’s pretty impressive.

We’ve already covered Only God Forgives extensively, offering our review, an exclusive 1 on 1 chat with Nicolas and an interview with the cast, but now we have even more for you. In addition to some new photos (which can be seen below), we also have for you a 1 hour discussion with Refn which was done with the Film Society of Lincoln Center.

It’s a pretty extensive chat and Refn covers multiple topics. Aside from the film itself, he talks about working with a small budget, his relationship with Ryan Gosling, his stance on violence in films and more. 1 hour may be a long time to watch someone talk but I’d say that this one is worth it.

If you’re interested in Refn, his films or just filmmaking in general, I suggest checking out the video below. I actually had the chance to speak with the director last weekend in NYC and he’s an interesting guy to listen to. His films aren’t for everyone but he certainly has some unique opinions on filmmaking.

Check out the video, and photos below and let us know in the comments if you’re excited for Only God Forgives.
