Deadline is reporting that the already very impressive cast of John Hillcoat’s upcoming Triple Nine just got a little more exciting. Thanks to a hiatus from AMC’s The Walking Dead, Norman Reedus now has some free time in his schedule and he’ll be spending it on the set of the upcoming heist film.

Set to star, get ready for it, Casey Affleck, Woody Harrelson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kate Winslet, Anthony Mackie, Aaron Paul, Teresa Palmer, and Gal Gadot, the Matt Cook scripted thriller sees a group of crooked cops blackmailed by the Russian mafia into pulling off an impossible heist. The only way for them to succeed is to kill one of their own. Of course, complications ensue when the rookie cop that’s supposed to die ends up surviving and throws off their entire plan.

With each new cast member announced for Triple Nine, my confidence in the film grows. Hillcoat is a great director and though his last film, Lawless, was pretty awful, I’m feeling quite confident that this outing will mark a return to form for him. The ensemble here is stunning and with so much talent involved, I would be shocked if the final product didn’t turn out to be electrifying.

Then again, we’ve seen promising films with great casts fall flat on their face before, so it’s not completely out of the realm of possibility. Either way, whether Triple Nine bombs spectacularly or soars high, it will definitely be one worth checking out when it releases next year.
