Add War of the Planet of the Apes to the growing list of films that have booked their place at next weekend’s New York Comic-Con event. Joining John Wick: Chapter Two and Lionsgate’s Power Rangers reboot, we fully expect 20th Century Fox to debut our first look at the blockbuster threequel in motion, with a special panel booked in for Thursday, October 6 at 8:30pm ET.
Hosting that showcase are director Matt Reeves, producer Dylan Clark and Andy Serkis, the series stalwart that has ensured Caesar has become a household name via two cracking motion-capture performances. Fox’s press release goes on to tease the unveiling of behind-the-scenes footage for War, followed by that early sneak peek. With a July, 2017 release date in place, NYCC will present the studio with the perfect opportunity to fire up the marketing machine a little early.
When it comes to the story underpinning the action-adventure threequel, we know that Serkis will be reprising the commanding role of Caesar, presiding over his population of apes. After muscling their way to the top of the food chain, “Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind.” Woody Harrelson is the actor primed to wage war against Caesar and Co., and it’ll be fascinating to see the actor switch to full-on villain mode following turns across The Hunger Games and the Now You See Me franchise.
Building on the marked success of Dawn and Rise, War for the Planet of the Apes will cap off Fox’s effects-laden trilogy on July 14, 2017. Steve Zahn, Terry Notary and Karin Konoval also star.
