With 2013 coming to an end, it’s time to start looking forward to the most exciting films of 2014. One that’s already on the radar for many is David Fincher’s adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s bestselling novel Gone Girl. We previously saw some leaked photos from the set of the film, but today we’ve got the first official image of Ben Affleck in the leading role.

This still shows Affleck taking the mic at what appears to be a rally for his missing wife. It really doesn’t reveal all that much about the movie, and there’s nothing revolutionary about Affleck’s look, but it’s still nice to finally see something official from the film.

I’m always excited for anything that Fincher works on, but Gone Girl seems like it’s set up to do extremely well. It’s the sort of dark story that’s perfect for the director, and the book already has a large built in audience. There’s also the fact that Affleck is getting more attention as an actor than ever before due to his upcoming role in Batman vs. Superman.

For those who aren’t familiar with Gone Girl, the film tells the story of Nick Dunne (Affleck) a man who loses his job in New York and moves back to his hometown of Carthage, Missouri. Things get even worse though when his wife goes missing on their fifth wedding anniversary and he finds himself as the prime suspect.

The film also stars Rosamund Pike, Kim Dickens, Patrick Fugit, Carrie Coon, Tyler Perry, Neil Patrick Harris and Emily Ratajkowski. It hits theaters on October 3, 2014.
