The Playlist is reporting that Academy Award-nominated actress Patricia Clarkson will be joining the cast of the upcoming eco-terrorist thriller The East.

She’ll be joining an already fascinating cast that includes Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood), Ellen Page (Juno), and Toby Kebbell (War Horse).

The film will tell the story of “a female security agent (Marling) who goes undercover in an anarchist terrorist group, but winds up falling for the leader (Skarsgard). Clarkson would play Marling’s boss, with Page as the leader’s ex-lover and curiously, Kebbell as a doctor with Parkinson’s-like symptoms caused by a tainted drug.”

Clarkson has been an interesting actress to watch. She has starred in such great films as The Untouchables, Good Night, and Good Luck, and Shutter Island, but lately we’ve been seeing her sillier side in projects like Easy A, Friends with Benefits, and a couple of appearances on Parks and Recreation. While it’s been fun to see her comic side, it’ll be great to see her back in another drama.

The East is being directed by Zal Batmanglij from a screenplay co-written by himself and Brit Marling, who is also starring in the film. Though there is no release date currently set, a release sometime in 2012 is expected.
