Aquaman will serve as both Patrick Wilson’s third superhero movie (if you count a voice cameo in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice) and his fifth film with director James Wan, all within this past decade. While we still don’t have too many details on his role in the upcoming flick, the actor has revealed that he thinks now is the perfect time to make an Aquaman movie.
Though Wilson isn’t playing the titular superhero, he’ll play his half-brother Orm, a.k.a. the Ocean Master and is said to have a large role. Like most moviegoers though, the Watchmen star admitted that he wasn’t all that familiar with the character before being cast, but it wasn’t due to a lack of interest. It was simply because the titular hero hadn’t really been brought to the big screen before.
“It wasn’t that I didn’t like Aquaman, but there weren’t any movies about it. Any movies of real significance. We finally reached a point where we can match the technology with the artistic desire.”
While Wilson wasn’t a fan at first, he’s definitely trying to make up for lost time before he gets in front of the camera. When the actor was gifted an action figure of Ocean Master and one of his comics on Good Morning America, he dusted off some of his newfound comic book knowledge to the live audience:
“This is the new 52. This is when they re-did it,” he said.
With Jason Momoa set in the lead role, and Amber Heard and Willem Dafoe helping to round out the supporting cast along with Wilson, James Wan’s Aquaman is certainly coming together swimmingly ahead of its October 5th, 2018 release.
