While all eyes are now on the inevitable sequel, it’s important to remember that while one is definitely on the way, it may be some time before we see it. After all, both Jenkins and star Gal Gadot have other commitments and in the case of the former, she’s not 100% confirmed to return just yet. Thanks to the success of Wonder Woman, the director is now an incredibly hot property in Hollywood and no doubt has numerous offers landing on her desk. If it’s up to her though, we may just see Jenkins tackle another superhero property.

In a recent Reddit AMA, she was asked if she’d be interested in directing any other DC projects, to which she replied that she’s a big fan of the Big Blue Boy Scout.

“It’s no secret that I love Superman, but right now I’m just happy doing Wonder Woman.”

Though Jenkins says she’s happy sticking with Diana Prince, it’s interesting that she mentions Supes. After all, like Wonder Woman, he’s an inspiring and optimistic hero (though you wouldn’t know it from what Zack Snyder’s done with him) and with WB still searching for someone to helm Man of Steel 2, it wouldn’t be too crazy to think that they may look into bringing Jenkins on board for the job.

Further on in the AMA, the director also touched on shared universes, saying that she’s got mixed feelings about them.

“I would say I have very mixed feelings about that. There’s a version of every kind of film that I celebrate, but there seems there’s also a tendency to make a mess if there’s too much going on – so it’s not something I think is always a great idea.”

Though far from the first one to state that opinion, Jenkins brings up a good point. In fact, those who’ve seen Wonder Woman will know that part of the reason it worked so well is precisely because it wasn’t too concerned with universe building and instead focused on telling a mostly standalone story. One look at a film like Batman V Superman or even this week’s new release, The Mummy, will show you how doing things the other way around can sink a movie.

Where Jenkins will go from here is still unknown, but even if it takes a few years, we imagine that she’ll return to the DCEU for another outing. As we’ve seen with Zack Snyder, Warner Bros. has no problem bringing directors back and whether it be for Wonder Woman 2 or even Man of Steel 2, you can bet that the studio will find a way to work with the filmmaker again.
