Paul Dano has just joined an impressive cast list for Brick director Rian Johnson’s Looper. Dano will play opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis and Emily Blunt in Johnson’s sci-fi thriller.
The story is as follows:
Looper is a time travel movie, set in a near future where time travel doesn’t exist but will be invented in a few decades and involves a group of killers (called Loopers) who work for a crime syndicate in the future. Their bosses send their targets blindfolded back in time to the Loopers, and their job is to simply shoot them and dispose of the body. So the target vanishes from the future and the Loopers dispose of a corpse that doesn’t technically exist, a very clean system. Complications set in from there.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt will play one of the Loopers, called Joe, who goes on the run after the complications set in. /Film has stated that Dano is likely to play a friend of Joe. Blunt will play the female lead: Sara and Willis will play an unnamed Looper from the future. Much of the other plot details are being kept quiet at the moment.
I for one am really looking forward to this, Rian Johnson did a very good job with redefining the film noir detective thriller with Brick. I hope he will be able to do this here with Looper, reinvent and do something interesting with the sci-fi genre. He has a lot to live up to, in the past few years sci-fi has been strong, I think Johnson can and will live up to this early promise.
