Remember The Adventures of Tintin? The Steven Spielberg-directed/Peter Jackson-produced animated film that hit theatres back in 2011? Well, as you may or may not know, the filmmaking duo is planning on putting together a sequel titled The Adventures of Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun. However, with his current commitments to The Hobbit trilogy, it seemed as if Jackson had forgotten about the popular literary character. Now, thanks to some statements made by the director while out promoting The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, we know that this is not the case.

Speaking to Bad Taste (via ComingSoon), Jackson confirmed that he’s still lined up for the Tintin sequel and he will get to it once his commitment to Middle Earth is over.

“As soon as I’m free of ‘The Hobbit,’ I’ll be going back into doing ‘Tintin.’ It was held up by The Hobbit, but we have every intention of doing another Tintin movie and it’s just waiting on me to be done with these ‘Hobbit’ movies,” said Jackson.

As for a timeframe, a release date in 2016, or even 2017 seems likely for The Adventures of Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun, so it’s still a long ways away. Of course, no concrete plot details have been revealed just yet but Spielberg has said that it will be based on two of the Tintin books, with rumors pointing to The Calculus Affair, Seven Crystal Balls and/or Prisoners of the Sun.

We’ll definitely keep you posted when we hear more but for now, tell us, what do you hope to see in The Adventures of Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun?
