Late last week, rumor broke out that The LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were circling Warner Brothers’ solo Flash film, and that they were faced with a geek-themed Sophie’s Choice between the titular speedster and one of Sony’s Ghostbusters movies. We don’t yet know what the duo has decided on in regards to the latter, but now have confirmation that they are in fact involved with The Flash.

According to multiple reports, Lord and Miller are developing the story for the film and are currently working on a script treatment. At this time, however, they have not committed to directing the movie and have yet to choose their next project. Based on their stellar resume – which includes such recent hits as Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 21 and 22 Jump Street, and producing duties on The Last Man On Earth as well as the upcoming LEGO Movie sequel and its various spinoffs – they likely have a mountain of offers to dig through, so it may be some time before they announce what they’ll be directing next.

Regardless, this is great news for fans of the Scarlet Speedster, who will be played by Ezra Miller and possibly make his big screen debut in next year’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Lord and Miller are two of Hollywood’s most talented up-and-comers and have proven time and again that they can handle big properties in both a fun and thoughtful manner. Hopefully, this is a sign that the future of the DC film landscape won’t be so dark and grim after all.

The Flash is scheduled to race into theaters on March 23rd, 2018.
