Disney and Pixar are primed to debut their new animation The Good Dinosaur next month and with it, we can expect a short film to accompany the new release. After wowing audiences with a poignant love tale between two volcanoes prior to Inside Out, it’s Sanjay’s Super Team that will preface the launch of the studio’s prehistoric yarn, and today we have our first concept art depicting the titular character and his superhero dream team.
Featuring an idea birthed by Pixar employee Sanjay Patel, the animated short has been billed as a deeply personal story about a young boy caught between his father’s reverence for Hinduism and his own love of western culture and, in particular, superheroes. So, what deities will be making up the team? As revealed in today’s artwork, Sanjay’s Super Team will revolve around Hanuman, Durga and Vishnu – a monkey-like god; a powerful goddess that specializes in the art of protection; and a tenacious, blue-skinned entity that had a hand in creating the universe.
With little-to-no dialogue included in the bite-sized feature – similarly to the majority of Pixar’s shorts – the studio has shone a spotlight on Mychael Danna, the composer who nabbed an Oscar for his stellar work on Ang Lee’s Life of Pi. He’ll be pulling on our heartstrings once again next month.
The Good Dinosaur is ready to stomp into theaters come November 25, when it will open with Sanjay’s Super Team. In the meantime, you can get the jump on Pixar’s former coming-of-age story with the official synopsis below.
