With X, B, Y and A already taken, leave it to the Rebels to select another letter of the alphabet for their brand new ship, the U-Wing.

Revealed via weekly YouTube series The Star Wars Show, the troop transport and gunship – officially referred to as the Incom UT-60D – will make an appearance in December’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and if the ship’s design looks familiar, it should.

That’s because the U-Wing actually appeared in the first Rogue One concept art that was showcased at last year’s Star Wars Celebration event in Anaheim, depicting an army of drenched Rebel fighters pouring out of the vessel’s hull.

Of course, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has come on an awful lot since then, and going off of those trailers and TV spot released for Gareth Edwards’ Anthology film, much of the action will revolve around the paradise planet of Scarif, which just so happens to be located in close proximity to the Death Star.

If reports are to be believed, Disney called in some directorial assistance to help guide Rogue One to the finish line, and earlier today it was alleged that Tony Gilroy did much more than lend a helping hand, actively directing the reshoots in lieu of Gareth Edwards himself.

However that may be, expect Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to zoom into theaters on December 16.
