Still reeling from this morning’s reveal of the latest – and final – full trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story? We wouldn’t blame you. Unveiling more of the backstory underpinning Gareth Edwards’ imminent spinoff, particularly that between Ersos Jyn (Felicity Jones) and Galen (Mads Mikkelsen), it was, unsurprisingly, our most comprehensive look at Rogue One to date, and we now have a host of screengrabs to comb over for extra details.
Embedded below, they cover everything from Darth Vader’s all-too-brief appearance to the battle of Scarif, most of which takes place under the looming shadow of the Death Star. A major weapon’s test is imminent, it seems, leading Jyn Erso to rally the Rebels in a last-ditch attempt to locate her wayward father. Indeed, with a deep and thorough understanding of the Empire’s greatest weapon, it’s not too much of a stretch to say that Mikkelsen’s scientist is the most important character in all of Rogue One, and at least based on this morning’s snippet, he won’t just be a throwaway MacGuffin, either.
Other shots found below include AT-AT Walkers storming the tropical island of Scarif. Interestingly, one of them is sporting a hollow body, and it’s likely that the towering machine has dumped off its cargo of Stormtroopers to do battle on the ground. They’re called All Terrain Armored Transport, after all, and if anything it’s a pointed reminder of just how far visual effects have come since A New Hope ignited a legacy back in ’77.
On board alongside Jones and Mikkelsen are Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, with Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera, an old-time insurgent from The Clone Wars. Friend or foe? We’ll find out soon enough.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens on December 16.
