The brothers-in-law are back: before Kevin Hart enlists alongside Dwayne Johnson for Central Intelligence next year, the comedian-cum-actor will reunite with co-star Ice Cube for action-comedy sequel, Ride Along 2.
Directed by Tim Story from a script by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, the soon-to-be-released feature follows Ben Barber (Hart) and James Peyton (Ice Cube) who accept an assignment to infiltrate a drug cartel in Miami and prevent any trace of the illegal substance from falling into the wrong hands. Such a daring mission naturally requires an understanding of keeping a low profile which, as today’s brand new trailer reveals, isn’t something that our bumbling duo are terribly well versed in.
Having earned a stellar $159 million off the back of a budget of $25 million, it’s small wonder why Universal fast-tracked the release of a sequel. It’s now less than two months from release, and the latest slice of footage offers up plenty to get excited about, from the gleefully over-the-top action to a wink and a nudge toward Universal’s Fast and Furious franchise via a Tyrese Gibson cameo.
Also starring Hangover and Community favorite Ken Jeong, Olivia Munn, Tika Sumpter, Benjamin Bratt, and Sherri Shepherd, Ride Along 2 will plot course for theaters on January 15, 2016.
Kevin Hart and Ice Cube lead the returning lineup of Ride Along 2, the sequel to the blockbuster action-comedy that gave us the year’s most popular comedy duo. Joining Hart and Cube for the next chapter of the series are director Tim Story, as well as Cube’s fellow producers—Will Packer, Matt Alvarez and Larry Brezner—who will produce alongside Cube.
