Now here’s some interesting, though not so surprising news. Robert Pattinson is looking to hop back into another franchise film as Think McFly Think is reporting that the Twilight star is in talks to join The Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire. The in demand actor is one of Lionsgate’s choices for the role of Finnick Odair and considering that Pattinson has already worked with Catching Fire director Francis Lawrence, there’s a good chance he may join.

Those who have read the book will know that Finnick is a twenty something year old ladies man that won the 65th annual Hunger Games. Personally, I think Pattinson could fit comfortably into the role and do justice to the character’s story, which is one of the better plot threads in the trilogy.

Pattinson is a solid actor who actually does have some talent, despite what many think. Sure, the Twilight films are garbage but outside of his role as Edward Cullen, Pattinson has given some good performances. Many people discount the guy because of his Twilight affiliation but once David Cronenberg‘s Cosmopolis is released I think people’s opinions of the young actor will change.

He definitely has the looks and talent to play Finnick and on Lionsgate’s part, it would make perfect sense to have him in the film. He’s a fan favorite with young girls all over the world and that’s one of the major demographics for The Hunger Games. Young girls everywhere are already losing it for Hunger Games stars Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson and if the studio were to add Robert Pattinson to the bill, well, there might be pandemonium at Catching Fire screenings.

That being said, I’m surprised Pattinson is even interested in the role. After Twilight I would think that he would want to separate himself from franchise films. With career choices like Cosmopolis and Bel Ami, it seemed like he wanted to build a more respectable resume for himself, one that could potentially one day lead to an Oscar.

Nevertheless, I wouldn’t be totally opposed to seeing Pattinson in the role, though I would like to see him take on more projects like Cosmopolis as I do think he’s a talented actor.
