Ryan Reynolds’ running commentary of the Disney-Fox merger has undoubtedly brought some welcome, light-hearted fun to all the negotiations and red tape. And it seems as though the Deadpool actor has saved the best for last.
In light of this morning’s landmark deal, the Canadian star took to Twitter to share two equally hilarious photos: a tongue-in-cheek image of the Merc being escorted out of Disney Park, along with a Deadpool-themed rendition of The Creation of Adam, Michelangelo’s instantly recognizable painting that’s etched into the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
But more on that later, as below you’ll see a cheeky, Photoshopped image of Deadpool having a run-in with the law. How did the Merc land himself in hot water, you ask? Well, according to Reynolds’ caption, “apparently you can’t actually blow the Matterhorn.” So take from that what you will.
Other moments when Ryan Reynolds has poked fun at the Disney-Fox deal include a tweet from December 6th, when the actor wrote: “Time to uncork that explosive sexual tension between Deadpool and Mickey Mouse.” Meanwhile, back in November, Reynolds asked: “If this is true, I wonder how the fudge it would affect Deadpool?”
And though some analysts initially feared that the newly-unveiled acquisition would have a marked effect on Fox’s film slate (see: The New Mutants, Dark Phoenix, et. al), Disney CEO Bob Iger has gone on record to say that today’s historic merger won’t have much of a bearing on those films already in development. In short: Deadpool‘s R rating is safe, while it’s also understood that the Mouse House is now interested in creating adult-oriented comic book movies of its own, too.
Closer to home, Deadpool 2 has been earmarked for release on June 1st, 2018, by which point X-Men fans will have already clocked eyes on The New Mutants (April 13th), Josh Boone’s horror-infused spinoff.
