Longtime fans of M. Night Shyamalan’s movies had their minds blown at the end of 2017’sĀ SplitĀ when Bruce Willis showed up for a quick cameo as David Dunn, the super-powered hero he first played back in 2000’sĀ Unbreakable. In Marvel-esque style, this teed up a closer to the loose trilogy in the form ofĀ Glass, which will see Willis face off against both James McAvoy’s The Beast and Samuel L. Jackson’s titular Mr. Glass.
Be that as it may, the director has been quick to point out that this is far from a superhero movie and is actually more of a thriller, one that’s said to be in line with the slow, contemplative tone ofĀ Unbreakable. That certainly sounds good to us, and though concrete updates have been few and far between, it appears that things are progressing pretty well on the project.
Speaking to Collider in a recent interview to promoteĀ Incredibles 2, Samuel L. Jackson offered a brief status report while also showering praise on his co-star, James McAvoy, telling the outlet the following:
Very exciting to make. Really wonderful sitting in a room and watching James [McAvoy] do what James does. As good as I like to think I am or what I do and how I do it, watching somebody transform characters in front of your eyes and have an argument with four different people is pretty amazing.
Of course, it’sĀ not only Jackson who’s excited by the film, as weĀ know that M. Night Shyamalan’s triumphant comeback story wowed studio executives, too, with reports claiming that Universal has allotted a “more traditional” budget for Glass. That extra pool of resources will no doubt lendĀ the director more leeway in the VFX department, and weāre fascinated to see what the final product will look like when all is said and done.
Glass has officially been slated for release on January 18th, 2019.
