Saoirse Ronan Plots Course For Brooklyn In Emotional Trailer For Oscar-Tipped Drama

For those in attendance at the Sundance Film Festival at the beginning of the year, one film that rose gracefully to the top of the pack was John Crowley's Brookyln. And now, as we stand on the verge of Oscar season, Fox Searchlight has debuted a heart-wrenching new trailer for the drama that firmly cements its place as one of this year's surefire contenders.

For those in attendance at the Sundance Film Festival at the beginning of the year, one film that rose gracefully to the top of the pack was John Crowley’s Brookyln. And now, as we stand on the verge of Oscar season, Fox Searchlight has debuted a heart-wrenching new trailer for the drama that firmly cements its place as one of this year’s surefire contenders.

While we hope that Crowley’s period piece is recongized in as many categories as possible, perhaps the one acting as a safe bet at this early stage is Saoirse Ronan getting the nod for Best Actress. Playing the part of Eilis Lacey, Brooklyn sees our protagonist leaving the Emerald Isle behind to carve out a life for herself in the title city.

Torn between her newfound love in the Big Apple and yearning for the taste of home, Ronan’s Eilis is caught between the concrete jungle and the rural outback, raising the question: which does she really consider home?

Fox Searchlight has planned to release Brooklyn for a limited run beginning November 4, 2015, with the film gradually opening in additional cinema chains in the weeks to follow. In the interim, you can familiarize yourself with the leading characters using the gallery below.

Brooklyn tells the profoundly moving story of Eilis Lacey (Saoirse Ronan), a young Irish immigrant navigating her way through 1950’s Brooklyn. Lured by the promise of America, Eilis departs Ireland and the comfort of her mother’s home for the shores of New York City. The initial shackles of homesickness quickly diminish as a fresh romance sweeps Eilis into the intoxicating charm of love. But soon, her new vivacity is disrupted by her past, and Eilis must choose between two countries and the lives that exist within.
