Variety is reporting that Sean Bean has been tapped to lead the adaptation of the Devil’s Peak trilogy. The role will have the actor playing Detective Benny Griessel “an aging alcoholic trying to track down a Cape Town vigilante who has taken it upon himself to dispatch with various killers, abusers and other violent criminals.”

While there are plans to turn the second and third books in the series into films too, and have Bean lead them as well, the box office success of the first film will likely determine the fate of the next two.

Bean isn’t exactly a household name but he’s seen his star rise quite a bit thanks to HBO’s Game of Thrones. Personally, I’ve always loved Sean Bean, ever since I saw him in Goldeneye. It will be interesting to see him lead a film, let alone a trilogy, but after his fantastic turn as Ned Stark in Game of Thrones I think he has what it takes.
