Sir Isaac Newton Getting His Own Action Franchise

A genius nerd and fast paced action, the combination is deadly. Or is it? According to Fast and Furious director Rob Cohen, who is planning on giving one of history's greatest minds his own action franchise, the seemingly odd combination could work out. And no, I'm not talking about Einstein or Shakespeare when I say genius nerd. I'm talking about the great Sir Isaac Newton.

A genius nerd and fast paced action, the combination is deadly. Or is it? According to Fast and Furious director Rob Cohen, who is planning on giving one of history’s greatest minds his own action franchise, the seemingly odd combination could work out. And no, I’m not talking about Einstein or Shakespeare when I say genius nerd. I’m talking about the great Sir Isaac Newton.

Perhaps you’ve heard of the guy? He’s the one who sat under a tree, got hit with an apple and thought to himself, hmm, there’s something to learn here that everyone has been missing. In all seriousness though, Newton was far more than just an intelligent Mathematician and physicist. The great scientist also was an astronomer, theologian, natural philosopher and alchemist.

With all this in mind, there is a lot of flexibility for Rob Cohen to work with as he sits down to pen the script. In addition to scripting and directing the film, Cohen will also be working on a a graphic novel to help sell the movie, which is an interesting move that is starting to become popular in Hollywood. You can look to Darren Aronofsky and his upcoming Noah as one such example of a graphic novel tie-in being released.

Cohen will be working in conjunction with Rocky and Get Rich or Die Tryin’ producer Gene Kirkwood to create this period based, action franchise. While the director has appeared to hit a downward spiral with his work, this project has completely captured my attention. It’s one of those ideas that seems so odd and out there that it just may work.

What do you think? Brilliant idea or doomed to fail?
