Over the past fortnight or so, Lionsgate has been busy peeling back the layers of its upcoming Power Rangers reboot to introduce budding viewers to the film’s supporting cast – namely Elizabeth Banks’ power-mongering alien and a radically different Alpha 5, the pint-sized assistant set to lend a helping hand (claw?) to the Rangers and Zordon – and yet, opinion is still mixed.
Overhauling a franchise with such a passionate audience has and always will be a difficult feat to pull off – how do you go about satisfying long-time fans while still serving up something relatively new? – but Power Rangers will be out to crack the conundrum, and possibly spawn a whole new franchise in the process, early next year.
In a bid to ensure that Dean Israelite’s live-action redo remains firmly in the public eye, Lionsgate has rolled out a slick new banner for the upcoming blockbuster, which essentially takes the existing character posters and, ahem, morphs them into one. Could this signal that a new Power Rangers trailer is on the way? With a March 24 release date fast approaching, we’re inclined to believe so.
For the uninitiated, Lionsgate’s reboot has Stranger Things season 2 star Dacre Montgomery front and center as Jason/Red Ranger, while the core Power Rangers lineup will see Naomi Scott as Kimberly/Pink Ranger, RJ Cyler as Scott Billy/Blue Ranger, Becky G as Trini/Yellow Ranger and finally, Ludi Lin as Zack/Black Ranger.
Power Rangers will hope to ignite a newfound franchise at Lionsgate when Dean Israelite’s modern redo hits theaters on March 24, 2017.
