Warner Bros. Pictures has today confirmed plans to digitally remaster Glenn Ficarra and John Requa’s Focus in preparation for an IMAX release next month.
Starring Will Smith opposite The Wolf of Wall Street starlet Margot Robbie, the thriller will follow Nicky (Smith), a highly-skilled thief who falls for Robbie’s Jess, a novice con-artist who becomes educated in the tricks of the trader under his tutelage. It’s not long before the student becomes the master, however, and when one of the biggest jobs of their life lies before them, the pair find themselves at loggerheads.
From what we’ve seen thus far, Ficarra and Requa’s romantic drama is heavy on the action and light on the subtlety. Hopping from back alley casinos to the likes of Buenos Aires, Focus will see Smith and Robbie hone and perfect their clandestine skills across continents, culminating in a high-stakes scheme at a race car circuit in the Argentine capital.
There’s no doubting its star power, but one would imagine that the success of Focus will hinge on the chemistry between the two leads, as their relationship evolves over the course of the story. As Smith’s Nicky says, there’s “no room for love in this game.”
Will Smith and Margot Robbie will unite for Focus when Glenn Ficarra and John Requa’s thriller arrives on February 27, 2015, with an IMAX release planned for the same day.
Will Smith stars as Nicky, a seasoned master of misdirection who becomes romantically involved with novice con artist Jess (Margot Robbie). As he’s teaching her the tricks of the trade, she gets too close for comfort and he abruptly breaks it off. Three years later, the former flame—now an accomplished femme fatale—shows up in Buenos Aires in the middle of the high stakes racecar circuit. In the midst of Nicky’s latest, very dangerous scheme, she throws his plans for a loop…and the consummate con man off his game.
