At the end of Thor: The Dark World, Loki was sitting on Odin’s throne in Asgard disguised as his adoptive father. That was quite the cliffhanger ending, and one which you have to believe is going to be addressed in Thor: Ragnarok when it’s released in 2017.
Worryingly though, it sounds like Tom Hiddleston may be ready to move on from playing The God of Mischief. The actor has said on a number of occasions during Crimson Peak‘s promotional tour that he has yet to hear from Marvel Studios about reprising the role, so could that uncertainty finally have gotten to him?
[zergpaid]If a recent interview with MTV is anything to go by, then it certainly looks like Hiddleston has his hesitations.
“I never quite know whether people want to see him again or whether people want to move on… I can’t really take the temperature on it. I would try not to repeat myself. I would try to do something new. I never want to feel like I’m retreading the same steps. I guess it’s like any actor who plays a character over and over again. I wonder what it’s like for the guys who play the Avengers!”
We’re sure that the actor could be persuaded to returning for Thor: Ragnarok, but only if Marvel finds the right story arc for Loki. It’s easy to understand why he may be somewhat reluctant though, as the fan-favourite bad guy had a major impact in Thor, The Avengers, and Thor: The Dark World, and it’s going to be tough for the studio to come up with something fresh for the character.
Regardless, Kevin Feige will no doubt find a way to bring the beloved actor back as the equally beloved villain in Thor: Ragnarok, but it could be some time until we find out, as Marvel are no doubt currently focused on Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange at the moment.
