Spectre Star Being Eyed To Play Black Canary In Birds Of Prey

With casting underway for Birds of Prey, Revenge of the Fans reports that Warner Bros. are eyeing a Spectre star for the role of Black Canary.

A few weeks ago brought news that DC are pushing ahead with a Birds of Prey movie, as director Cathy Yan has been hired to helm the team-up film which will feature a bunch of Gotham’s female heroes and anti-heroes. Who exactly will be on the roster is unknown, but Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn is obviously a lock, while we’ve also heard reports that Batgirl will be making her DCEU debut here as well.

That remains unconfirmed at the moment, however, but what we can tell you with absolute certainty is that the team-up movie will be based on a script penned by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee: The Movie), who just extended her tenure with Warner Bros. after agreeing to course-correct Joss Whedon’s Batgirl. Still no word on a possible release date for that one, but casting is now underway on BoP and Revenge of the Fans have a juicy scoop for us today.

According to them, Spectre star Lea Seydoux is being eyed for the role of Black Canary. She’s apparently in early talks with the studio, though she’s said to have some competition. From what we understand, there are 10 actresses, including Seydoux, all testing for the titular roles, with Warner Bros. trying to determine who works best in what part. For instance, Lea also auditioned for Catwoman.

Right now, not much is known about the plot of the pic other than the fact that Harley Quinn and Batgirl will most likely be the central characters. And Black Canary, too, it seems. From the looks of things, it’s possible that it may even turn into a Birds of Prey vs. Gotham City Sirens affair, as Harley normally isn’t thought of as being a member of the former team.

Then again, it could end up being a situation in which movies inspire the comics, with the former Clown Princess of Crime being integrated into the books around the time of theatrical release. Time will ultimately tell, but we’ll let you know as soon as we hear more.
