John Boyega Alludes To Possible Time Jump For Star Wars: Episode IX

Recent comments made by John Boyega (Finn) suggest Star Wars: Episode IX may well incorporate a significant time jump into its story.

Though it’s yet to even begin filming, Star Wars: Episode IX is already the subject of intense debate online – primarily due to the alleged casting calls put out by Lucasfilm.

For instance, just yesterday we caught wind of a possible female lead (Caro?) to fight alongside Rey and the remainder of the Resistance, while there’s even been talk that J.J. Abrams and Chris Terrio are searching far and wide for an actress to play Mara Jade, a character from the old Expanded Universe – now known as simply Legends – who was originally portrayed as Luke Skywalker’s wife.

Whether that subplot is translated onto the silver screen is still up for question, but during a recent interview with Yahoo! (h/t Screen Rant), John Boyega hinted at a possible time jump, as he’s now in the process of growing out his hair in anticipation of Episode IX‘s production start this summer.

I can’t wait to start shooting the next and final leg of the [Star Wars] franchise. The first step is growing out my hair, so you can wait for the trailer to see why.

That tells us one of two things: either Star Wars: Episode IX plans to feature an older Finn towards the end of its conclusive story, or it’ll incorporate some form of flash-forward to a time when FN-2187’s days fighting in the Resistance are long behind him. Or, failing that, the longer hair could simply be a way to illustrate Finn’s maturity.

Either way, John Boyega is certain the Episode IX will spell “all-out war” for our heroes:

I think Episode IX, you know, regardless of where the story goes (and I haven’t read it, by the way), is going to be all-out war so I know that I’m going to have to do all I can and train for that.

Filming on Star Wars: Episode IX is expected to commence in the coming months ahead of its grand release on December 20th, 2019. And we’ll be bringing you all the latest scraps of intel from that galaxy far, far away as time wears on.
