Star Wars: Episode VII Casting Announcements May Only Be A Few Days Away

With only about 20 months to go until the release of Star Wars: Episode VII, it's a bit surprising that we've heard essentially nothing official about the film's plot or cast. Sure, J.J. Abrams is notorious for being extremely secretive about his movies, but with something of this scale, it seems like much more would have been announced, at least in terms of casting. That all may be changing in a few days, though, as it's rumored that announcements about the cast could come on May 4th.

With only about 20 months to go until the release of Star Wars: Episode VII, it’s a bit surprising that we’ve heard essentially nothing official about the film’s plot or cast. Sure, J.J. Abrams is notorious for being extremely secretive about his movies, but with something of this scale, it seems like much more would have been announced, at least in terms of casting. That all may be changing in a few days, though, as it’s rumored that announcements about the cast could come on May 4th.

May 4th is a logical day for the announcement, as many know that day as Star Wars Day due to the way “May the fourth” sounds an awful lot like “may the force.” It isn’t just a love for puns though that causes fans to believe this might be the day for the announcement. In a recent interview, Alan Horn (chairman of Walt Disney Studios) said that casting is almost complete and announcements should be coming “very shortly.”

I could run through all the actors who have been rumored for roles at this point, but that list would take us deep into the night. I will mention that Adam Driver is basically considered a lock at this point, and it’s expected that Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher will all be back. Beyond that though, we’ve really got nothing other than whispers and hope.

If eight days from now is really when the Star Wars: Episode VII casting announcements come, then I say with even more gusto than ever before: May the Fourth be with you!
