It was roughly 24 hours ago that we heard Toy Story 3 scribe Michael Arndt had written a 40-50 page treatment for Star Wars: Episode VII. Now we’re receiving confirmation that the writer will indeed pen the screenplay for the film. Furthermore, pre-production has already begun on the film, but don’t get too excited, it’s still without a director.

That being said, talent like Brad Bird and J.J. Abrams have their eye on the project but no one has been confirmed as of yet, at least not officially. Perhaps Disney already has a director set and at work but as of now, the mouse house is keeping quiet on who will be helming the much anticipated film. Whoever they do choose though, you can bet it’s an A-lister as Michael Arndt‘s name on the screenplay is sure to attract some top talent.

So, with a writer all set and pre-production already going on, you can bet that the next step is confirming a director, which Disney is surely to do in the near future. And when they do, we’ll let you know.

In the meantime, let us know what you think of Michael Arndt penning the screenplay.
