Game Of Thrones Star Peter Dinklage Seemingly Keen On Star Wars Role

While promoting his role in apocalyptic drama I Think We're Alone Now, Peter Dinklage expressed his interest in a Star Wars role.

Though Game of Thrones is fast coming to an end, Peter Dinklage’s tenure in geek culture may stretch far beyond 2019.

The Tyrion Lannister actor, who is currently out promoting Reed Morano’s apocalyptic drama I Think We’re Alone Now, recently expressed his interest in a possible Star Wars role – but temper those expectations, as it seems Dinklage’s offhand comment is more to do with the actor’s desire to reunite with Morano.

At the ongoing Sundance Film Festival, Vulture caught up with the creative duo to discuss I Think We’re Alone Now, where Reed Morano addressed those rumors linking her with a future Star Wars gig. While she fully admits to having a meeting with Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy, Morano stressed that it was just a meeting – nothing more, nothing less – at which point Peter Dinklage chimed in to say that he’d “love” to be a part of the project.

A similar conversation took place when the pair sat down with IMDb (via Screen Rant), leading Dinklage to joke about his potential transition to Star Wars.

It’s a long shot, then, as Dinklage was merely sharing a laugh with his co-star Elle Fanning, who struggled to delineate between Star Wars and Star Trek. Nevertheless, the Game of Thrones mainstay would be a massive coup for Lucasfilm, and let’s face it, the studio has no trouble attracting some of the industry’s biggest names – even if they’re only appearing via cameo, such as Tom Hardy and Joesph Gordon-Levitt.

As for Thrones, Dinklage firmly believes that the hit fantasy drama is ending at the “perfect time.”

It’s time. Storywise, not just for all our lives. It’s the perfect time to end it. Sometimes shows stay on a little too long, the jumping-the-shark thing. … It’s bittersweet when it’s time to move on with everything. It’s always the sad part of our business, because you get pockets of great people for short amounts of time and then you have to move on and it’s always heartbreaking. Especially when you’ve spent more than a couple months with people.

HBO’s Game of Thrones will reach its fiery conclusion in 2019. Meanwhile, the Lucasfilm franchise is gearing up for the release of its second anthology flick, Solo: A Star Wars Story, which is due to unveil its first official trailer tomorrow, January 24th. Keep your peepers peeled.
