If one was to describe General Armitage Hux in a single word, it’d probably be ‘ruthless.’ The First Order’s sullen military officer was initially placed in control of Starkiller Base back in 2015, when Hux watched the Senate and its cherished fleet be completely obliterated without so much as batting an eyelid.
But just like Kylo Ren failed Snoke at the tail-end of The Force Awakens, so to did Armitage Hux, which tees up a very intriguing power dynamic leading up to the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. In fact, according to Domhnall Gleeson, Hux and Kylo Ren will actually be competing for the Supreme Leader’s attention soon after the destruction of Starkiller Base, which can only mean that their sibling-like spat spikes to a whole new level. Who knew an intergalactic (and totalitarian!) regime could fall prey to office politics?
And now, with only two weeks to go until the big day, Empire Magazine has shared a moody new shot of General Hux on board what we can only assume to be a Star Destroyer.
It’s the second big reveal to come from the Empire vaults in as many days, after yesterday brought forth new intel on DJ, Benicio Del Toro’s mysterious smuggler. He’s neither hero nor villain, which will surely add some moral ambiguity to a franchise defined by the light side and the dark.
As for the whole Hux/Kylo Ren struggle, it appears the former is quietly rooting for Rey’s demise.
Because of what happened in the first film, he’s been pushed to a place where his position is in real jeopardy, and people make really bad decisions when they get desperate. Hux and Kylo Ren are vying for power and for Snoke’s attention. They’re both contenders for the throne and Hux is hoping Ren explodes, so that he can take up the mantle. He knows it will be a battle otherwise, one he may very well lose.
We are, at the time of writing, exactly two weeks out from the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. And we couldn’t be more excited.
