Mark Hamill On The Chances Of Luke Wielding A Lightsaber In The Last Jedi

Chatting to GQ, Star Wars: The Last Jedi actor Mark Hamill touched on the chances of Luke wielding a lightsaber come December.

“Wait for Eight” has become Mark Hamill’s go-to response when drilled for answers about anything and everything relating to Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and recently the series mainstay called upon that old chestnut while chatting to GQ.

First spotted by ComicBook.com, Hamill, an all-around Star Wars legend, sat down with the magazine as part of the outlet’s exhaustive cover story, one which also drew attention to Harrison Ford, Han Solo, and how the former often poked fun at the dialogue written by George Lucas.

But for Mark Hamill, GQ presented the one burning question that has been on everyone’s lips since The Last Jedi was first announced: Will Luke Skywalker wield a lightsaber come December? Technically, it’s nigh on certain that the Star Wars veteran will hold a ‘saber at some point, given The Force Awakens ended with Rey reaching out to return her elegant weapon to its rightful owner. As for the chances of Luke calling on his old skills – well, Hamill remained coy.

Oooh, that’s edging into dodgy questions. Do I use a lightsaber in the new one? We’ll have to wait for Eight.

After making tracks for Ahch-To, we know Mark Hamill’s Jedi enters a state of isolation, and has seemingly spent the intervening years ruminating on the site of the last Jedi Temple. Exactly what that means for the story of The Last Jedi is up for question, but one thing’s immediately clear: when Luke does return, it’ll surely galvanize the Resistance in their fight against Snoke.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi shoots for theaters on December 15th and when it does, it’ll include a poignant tribute to the late, great Carrie Fisher. As previously reported, General Leia Organa will be written out of the franchise entirely, as opposed to being killed off – just don’t count on seeing Fisher resurrected through the power of VFX.
